ANN HOWARTH
Ann Howarth lives and works in Stockport as a photographic artist specialising in abstract photography.
She received a first class Honours Degree in photography at MMU in 2006, and has exhibited at the Circle Club Manchester, The Beehive Mill Ancoats, and at MMU.
Ann used the workshops as an opportunity to move away from her usual experimental work, and responded by observing and photographing the people working on the local allotments at ‘Priestnall Allotments and Garden Society’.
From differing backgrounds, they, unlike the slaves brought to this country to work the land, choose to do so for recreation; tending their plots and taking pleasure in producing something they have seen grow from seed to fruit. Through this activity they are all rendered equal regardless of age, gender, occupation and social status.
