SCOTIA LUHRS
Scotia completed her Masters in Photography at London College of Printing in 2003, and has exhibited in The John Kobal Portrait Award, Transition Gallery, Fourcorners, and The AOP Open.
Her images have also appeared in a selection of publications including Kilimanjaro, Pictured and Creative Review. Based in London, a primary concern of her work is exploring various interpretations of portraiture, particularly looking at people in relation to their environment with regards to issues around identity, belonging, and locality.
The Workshop series examines notions of portraiture through a detailed look at the personal and idiosyncratic organization of tools, specifically those of her grandfather.
Scotia alternates between the role of family historian, archivist, portraitist, and possibly even anthropologist, with the tools illustrating the spirit of her grandfather’s attitude to life: his inquisitive nature about the world and how it works, his capacity for problem solving, and his self-reliance.
