TRISTAN THOMSON
Awarded a BA Hons in Photographic Communication from Falmouth College of Arts, Tristan’s photography initially reflected an interest in people in environments out of the social mainstream. These included a care unit for the elderly, a psychiatric home and a government funded alternative learning programme for five to ten year old children.
After graduating, he travelled to India with his cousin. A limited edition book of their experiences was produced, illustrated by Tristan’s images.
Now working in the photographic industry, his photography has developed away from the physical human presence towards exploring what is left in its absence.
The work produced for ‘Everything Equally’ examines the physical spaces of car parks in relation to recent government plans to build on greenbelt sites outside of cities.Through photography he has observed how these spaces can lay waste to large areas of land, some of which dwarf football pitches yet are rarely used.
They are all constructed to serve an equal purpose yet are equally forming non beneficial space.
